Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir

The Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir made their second visit to the Philippines, travelling at their own expense to put on two performances in aid of our charity and raise money for our Center.

As last time, the first performance was held in the Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church, Santa Maria 2, and the second evening at the Sydney Hotel.

The choir, all 38 of them, was in fantastic form and gave two superb performances.  ‘The rhythm of life’ and ‘You’ll never walk alone’ were just two of the songs that were rapturously received by the audience.

Boys from our Center, with the help of some of our graduates at Trade School, put on a splendid performance serenading the audience with their rondallas and guitars while the choir was taking refreshments during the interval.

After the concerts the choir went round town putting on impromptu performances, like carol singers at Christmas, wherever they went.  On the Monday morning just before they left for Hong Kong, they said goodbye to the staff of the Sydney Hotel (where they were staying) with two beautiful songs (‘Softly as I leave you’ and ‘Take me home’).  It was a very touching moment and one that the staff will remember for a long time to come.

The choir raised 67,000 pesos for our Center and a further 100,000 pesos was received as an extremely generous personal donation from one of the choir.

So a huge thank you to the choir.  It was a wonderful, wonderful weekend for everybody and as many a person has said ‘the highlight of the year’.

It gets better, the choir has promised to make this an annual event!
