OSPITAL NING ANGELES

Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) was built in 1965.  It is a government hospital serving a community which has grown exponentially over the years.  Time had taken its toll; the building was in much need of repair and a lot of the equipment was old or malfunctioning.

When Dr Froilan Canlas, a member of our Rotary Club, took over as Medical Director, it was decided by our Rotary Club that we should take on the mammoth task of renovating and re-equipping ONA.  With regards to the equipment, this was made possible largely due to the help of Ed Artis of Knightsbridge International who was able to acquire a great deal of redundant, but perfectly serviceable equipment from US hospitals which were upgrading their systems.  Normally redundant equipment such as this is disposed of, as donating it to charities involves many insurance/legal complexities.  However, despite this, we were able to acquire 30 million pesos worth of equipment.  It was a joyful day to see the lorry loads of sorely needed equipment arrive at the hospital.

Renovation
The building itself needed much attention; rebuilding, repairing or extending.  Generally, a complete overhaul was required. The whole project was coordinated by our Treasurer Mark Smith who worked tirelessly for the next 18 months, spending much of his time at the hospital ensuring that everything was up to the mark.

The project began in November 2005 and over the ensuing months the revitalised ONA gradually emerged.  The hospital now has 152 beds (previously 98).

Following the completion of the major part of this project, the hospital was given a new name - The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center.

Following the improvements, more people are donating equipment, supplies and money. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact us.
